  • Use previous-year Paper 1 question papers from the official NTA UGC NET website for real data sets; the arithmetic and style of the data are the best guide to what to expect.

  • Time every set. Start at 10 minutes for 5 questions and bring it down to 6 or 7.

  • Keep an error log with three columns: the question type, the trap that caught you, and the correct method. Review it each evening.

  • Practise reading the display before reading the question, and say the units aloud once.

  • Attempt a mix of tables, bar charts, line charts and pie charts; the two-pie and stacked-bar cases deserve extra practice.

  • Read the title, units and legend of the data display every time.

  • Check the base of every percentage and the direction of every ratio.

  • Approximate first, and compute exactly only if two options are close.

  • Mark an answer for every question, as there is no negative marking.

  • Keep roughly 8 to 10 minutes for the unit, and do not let one hard question take more than 3 minutes.

  • Leave a spare minute at the end to recheck any answer where you changed the unit or the base.
